This is Dawn writing. My brother Ty's father-in-law, Rich sent these 2 campground reviews to me after they went a seperate route on their way back to Colorado:

Hi Dawn, We are in our last night at Blackwell Island RV Resort and we highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Coeur d'Alene. The park sits on the Spokane River very near the entrance to Lake Coeur d'Alene. TThe resort is new and has all pull through spaces. The staff is very customer-service oriented, accomodating, friendly, and professional. One fellow on the staff volunteered to drive to our site and carry anything we wanted to take on the pontoon boat and help us load.

The Spokane river is 39 miles long to the dam and is clean, clear, and cold. There are many beautiful mansions along the river and several beaches and parks. The lake is huge clear, clean, cold, and deep. We rented a pontoon boat for a day and spent 8 hours touring the lake and the river. Ty loved diving into both once he got used to the 58 degree water temps. Kurt, of Amy and Kurt, brought his speed boat today and took the Touchard's boating at breakneck speeds and treating the girls to tubing behind the boat. John Elway is spending his 50th birthday at his place on the lake.

We also got here just in time for the Iron Man Triathalon which hosted 1800 participants for a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and a 26.3 marathon. There were thousands in town to watch, volunteer, and participate in the event. We walked the town seeing many very fit, but tired, folks celebrating.

The town of Coeur d'Alene is very pretty with many shops, restaurants, and activites. It is very much a destination vacation whether you are in a hotel resort, tent camping, or RVing.

We're coming back when we get the chance!

Now we are at the Bozeman KOA ($56 per night) and have a great review for this one, too. Very nice staff and nice pool. There is also an indoor/outdoor hot springs and spa right next door (walking distance) with 9 pools and gym for $8.50 per adult and $7.50 for children and seniors. We just returned from two hours of hot water bliss. It also has a great steam room and dry sauna. I would recommend this KOA (except for today's weather: We had two raging hail storms today. The first one broke the sky light in the bathroom. We got it covered with a garbage bag before the second one hit. The second round didn't cause any damage. Our neighbors in a Jayco Jay Feather 24' trailor had two sky lights broken and their RV was flooded. The weather is perfect at this hour). There is shopping close to the park. This is a park for anyone interested in a few days at Yellowstone.

KOA Campgrounds

We stay at KOA campgrounds quite often and at this moment we are at the KOA in Myrtle Beach, SC. We have come here for 7 to 8 days every year for the past 4 years and obviously we love it. We have stayed at several other KOA's and have always been treated very well by everyone on the staff. Some KOA's have very large staffs that work all over the grounds and some of them remember us and they all have very interesting stories to tell. For us that is part of camping; meeting new and interesting people from all over. The KOA at Virginia Beach, VA is another of our favorites. We encourage everyone to try KOA.

My husband and I travel back and forth to Florida and always for KOA's, even if they are full they are polite and inform you of other campgrounds. This is great when you have had enough of the highway and need to rest and feel safe.

On our recent trip to Michigan, Mackinaw City KOA, the folks there were also very helpful and letting us know what is going on in the area..including a 40% off buffet at the restaurant around the corner!!! Yep, no cooking that nite for me.

Love KOA's always clean and friendly.

We love KOA. We have spent wonderful quality family time at many KOAs in many different states. With that being said, I would like to warn fellow campers about the KOA in Casey, Illinois. This KOA does not cater to the family atmosphere that we all have come to enjoy. They frown on any children as demonstrated by the hundreds of rules & signs plastered throughout the facility targeted towards any minors. They constantly hounded our 11 year old twins about their rules throughout our stay. The most upsetting event that happened to us was when the management entered our trailer with a master key that they had for reasons unknown to us. They threw all our shoes in the trailer and retracted our awning. The family felt extremely violated and pressured me to pack up & leave. On our return, I contacted the KOA Corporate Offices and was told that they wouldn't do anything because each KOA is individually owned and operated. I did come to learn that they had violated some laws, however, I would have to return to fill out a police report which we did not do because of the distance. The crux of the story is, "try to get some info and/or reviews before you visit any camp ground".

KOA's are not cheap and are usually off the beaten path and you have to drive out of your way to get to them.
We avoid the KOA's as they seem to just want your money. One we have stayed at was only campground in town so they had you. $35 for gravel, no trees, small lot and next to the hiway.

Leander/NW Austin KOA Campground

We're currently staying at the Leander KOA. This is a very new campground, about 5 years old.
The staff at this park is amazing. Very friendly and helpful.
The campground is ultra clean.
There is a nice pool, and facilities for washing, showering, etc.
An earlier comment mentioned that KOAs tend to be higher priced and situated out-of-the-way. I guess that you get what you pay for. This park is nicely situated far enough away from busy highways to reduce highway noise, yet still close enough to quickly jump onto 183A and head out to local attractions like downtown Austin or the nearly lakes.
My wife and I are thinking about becoming WorKampers. We like this park so much that we're planning on working there for awhile. I hope this means that the staff is going to become even more friendly and helpful :-)

stayed at KOA near Miami FL. . It cost me over $3000.00 and my insurane over $5000. The employer of KOA plugged in my cord as I was going for my tester ( I allways check power first) and the plug had 3 phase wired to it and every thing electrical was destroyed 120 and 12 volt. The camp ground manager said to bad so sad not my problem. Never stayed in KOA since and try to discorage any one els. At over $8000 per stay I can't afford KOA.

KOAs are most generally above average in quality but the price is usually way too high even with the 10% discount when compared with comparable parks. We only stay in one if we absolutely must.
