Hi Everybody,
We completed the first 1,800 miles of our RV trip. We have been in Colorado Springs, CO for several days now. The weather is great and we have had the opportunity to do and see lots of things. We are leaving shortly, heading for Rawlins Wyoming and eventually Washington state.
June of 2010 is the centennial celebration for the RV industry. One hundred years ago manufacturers began building RV's so people could travel and explore this great country. As we traveled through St. Louis, MO, (the Gateway to the West) and into Kansas I could not help but think about the families who loaded up their modified farm wagons for the long journey westward. To me this was the true spirit, and the earliest form of RVing in America. These farmers, trappers, miners and traders saw an opportunity far from home and began the migration westward.
I thought about the planning and preparation that must have gone into a trip like that, and how nice we have it in our modern day RV's. They traveled 15 strenuous miles a day and we travel 350 miles a day at our leisure. I am the adventurous type person who would have been one of he many making that journey westward in the 1800's, but I must say I enjoy all of the amenities we have at our disposal as we head westward today.
Until next week, plan your trip, travel safe and enjoy your RV experiences. Remember, getting there is half the fun!

Update: Since writing this we have made stops in Rawlins, Wy (not much there) and Jackson Hole, WY where we rode horses and enjoyed a natural hot springs. Today we are headed for Yellowstone!
Note from Dawn: We are headed to my nephew Jordan's wedding. Jordan lives in Washington state. We left North Carolina in our RV and stopped in Colorado Springs, CO. From there my sister Tane and her family, and my brother Ty and his family (including his mom and dad in-law) joined us in an RV they rented to follow us to the big event! We are staying at KOA's all along this big adventure. We have 2 RV sites and a cabin. What an experience of a lifetime! The kids have seen and done so much and this is only the beginning. I feel fortunate to be able to participate in this "cool" lifestyle called RVing!
Feature article and Q&A will return soon.....
For RV Education 101, training is fundamental
It's funny how some of the smallest ideas turn into the biggest projects.....
Parks aren't the place for foolish behavior
Like common sense, common courtesy doesn't seem all that common anymore. That observation was emphasized by a campground radio tuned to a country station early one recent morning when my wife and I were doing our regular walk through a state park....
Woman killed when RV crashes into disabled tractor trailer
A 58-year-old Alabama woman was killed late Tuesday night in a vehicle crash just north of the Clark-Scott county line on
Interstate 65 northbound.......
Elderly man hid from fire A man in his 90s was being treated in intensive care Sunday night for burns and smoke inhalation after spending several minutes trapped in a burning camper Sunday morning. ....

Mark's RV Quick Tip #1: Water weighs 8.3 pounds per gallon. A forty-gallon fresh water holding tank full of water adds 332 pounds of weight to your RV. Depending on the type and size of RV you have the added weight and the movement of the water, when you’re traveling, can be a concern. You should only take the amount of water that will be required to get to your destination and refill as required. Don’t forget your gray and black tanks too. Try not to travel with full holding tanks if at all possible.
Mark's RV Quick Tip #2: Purchase some anti-skid shelf liner to use throughout the RV. It works extremely well and can be used in cabinets, drawers, counter tops, tables or anywhere else you want to prevent things from moving while you’re traveling.

Go for the RV Gold Program
"I go on tour with Beacher's Madhouse for about 6 months out of the year and we usually use an RV as our tour bus. When I started searching for educational materials for RV owners to help me better understand everything I should know, every search led me to the RV Education 101 folks. When I'm not touring, I'm still on the road, operating my shopping site, Buynana(dot)com, from my mobile office.
The Go For the RV Gold package is perfect for me because the less I have to carry around with me, the better. I have data coverage over 98% of the United States so if anything ever happened on the road, I could just pull off, log on, and figure it out!
After signing up, Dawn contacted me to welcome me and say thanks. At 33, I only vaguely remember when this type of service was the norm, and it's refreshing to find that some people still greet their customers personally.
I'm glad that when I searched for "RV Training Videos" in Google, RV Education 101 made up 4 out of the first 6 listings. What I suspected then is what I clearly now know - Dawn and Mark do a fantastic job and this is, by far, the best RV Education product on the market, and one that's certainly needed.
Thanks for everything, I'm looking forward to getting my Gold RV Certification!"
~Sincerely, Brian Hogan

Benefit highlights
A product that Mark personally uses: Camping/RV Battery Chargers- BatteryMINDers® are the new generation of SMART, pulse type "computer-on-a-chip" chargers, that safely charge and maintain all size / type / brands of batteries including starter, deep cycle and sealed types including AGM “dry” made by OPTIMA, ODYSSEY, EXIDE, INTERSTATE, et al. They do all of this without ever overcharging, no matter how long they are left on charge – days-weeks-or even months. Dubbed the chargers with "brains," they are the first to fully-automatically reverse the primary cause of early battery failure known as "sulfation". Sulfated batteries once considered beyond recovery can now be brought back to long-term useful condition. Certain models of BatteryMINDers® can more than double the useful life of new batteries.

About us:
Our goal with RV University This Week is to provide you with helpful information to make all of your RV experiences more enjoyable. I left my position as an RV Sales and F&I manager in 2000 to start my own company, RV Education 101. We produce educational videos, DVDs and e-books on how to use and maintain your RV. The reason I left my job was due to my concern about the lack of educational and safety awareness material available to the RV consumer, in other words, you. We are a small company. My wife Dawn left her position in RV sales to help start the company and is our Sales and Marketing Director. We currently have a 35-foot Class A motor home. We have two boys, Tyler 13 and Josh 19, both avid RVers and two dogs, Gracie and Buck. Gracie is the good one.
