CONSUMER FEEDBACK REGARDING RV EDUCATION 101 PRODUCTS
"Dawn, I bought The RV Book at Walmart and enjoyed reading it. Thanks a million.
I really appreciate it. I was in the Army for a short time and our CO was a CW4.
Patrick E. Flores, Bandmaster, 101st Airborne Division Band.
So I have great respect for what your husband accomplished in the Army
and I admire what you (plural) are doing to educate people about RVs.

QUOTE OF THE MONTH
"Experience is a good school, but the fees are high."

EDITORIAL BY MARK
Hi Everybody,
The weather has been so nice, here in North Carolina, that I was tempted to de-winterize the RV and get it ready for the spring camping season. But, I'll wait until March just in case. March is almost always a safe bet here, for taking the RV out of winter storage. I can't wait to plan some trips and start using the RV again!
January was a busy month for us. I updated all ten of our E-books, something I have put off for quite awhile, and I finished writing two new e-books I was working on. (RV Safety Features, Tips & Tricks and RV Care & Maintenance) I am also working on a new video script that we will be filming in April. I'll keep you posted.
Last fall we were invited, by HGTV, to take part in filming the annual RV 2008 program. We had a great time working with the HGTV crew. We were just notified that the show will air on 30 March 2008 at 9 PM EST. So if you're interested in what's new for RV's in 2008 be sure and tune in. Some of my RV tips and crossword puzzle will be on the HGTV website...I will let you know when it is posted.
Our friends, Joe and Vicki Kieva, nationally known RV experts, stopped by to visit with us on their way to the Raleigh,NC RV show. As always, we enjoyed having dinner with them and a chance to catch up. They recently returned from an RV trip to Alaska where they filmed a new video titled, "Joe & Vicki Kieva's RVing Alaska" with John Holod of RV Adventure Videos. John's new "Alaska: RV Adventure of a Lifetime" video will be released soon too. So if you ever thought about a taking an RV trip to Alaska there is no better way to plan and prepare for it that this. I'll keep you posted.
Vicki also finished her brand new cookbook titled, My RV Kitchen & Favorite Recipes. It's not your average cookbook, Vicki's book is loaded with expert advice on everything from how to equip your RV kitchen to great recipes and tips. Her new book will be available on our website soon.
That's about it for now, I hope you enjoy the newsletter
Until next month Happy Camping!

RVING WITH MARK POLK ~ Feature Article: Tyler's RV Tips
Recently as I was updating one of my e-books, I ran across some of my son's RV tips. I thought you might enjoy reading some of Tyler's RV Tips. Remember he was only six at the time....

Every weight rating on an RV is based on the weakest link in the system. The tires on your RV are by far the most important and most neglected link in the system. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've heard people say that the tires on their RV were defective, or my tires only had 12,000 miles on them when I had a blowout. In the majority of cases the truth of the matter is that tire maintenance has been neglected. The only thing between your RV and the road surface is your tires and the air that is in them.
Some of the leading causes for premature tire failure are:
A. Overloading the tires
B. Under inflated tires
C. Age of Tires
D. Ozone & UV rays
E. All of the above

Arm Yourself with Qualified RV Buying Information, Before you Buy Your RV! ....
Q: Do you need a generator on your RV?
Mark Says:
Generators make an RV fully self-contained. You have instant electricity at the push of a button. It’s a nice feature to have electricity while you are traveling. If you enjoy dry-camping a generator can be extremely useful. Almost all motorhomes come equipped with an on board generator, and there are some fifth wheels, Sport Utility Trailers and truck campers that come equipped with generators, or in many cases you have the option to add a generator. As long as you have a fuel supply you have electricity.
NOTE:There are RV generators that can run on gasoline, diesel or propane.

RVTV ON THE OUTDOOR CHANNEL ALL YEAR
RVTV is a magazine format show with themed topical segments. Rob Engman, executive producer and host of the show said, “We feel we are raising the bar on programming, tailor-made for RVing fans everywhere. We showcase great destinations, products, lifestyle stories, RV savvy tips, safety advice, book reviews and almost anything our viewers ask us for.” RVTV feels its joint project with Mark Polk (who provided the RV Savvy segments for seasons 1, 2 and 3) is a great way to help educate people about RVing and for people new to RVing to see first hand what it’s all about.
Season 4 is currently airing and The Outdoor Channel will be airing RVTV episodes 52 weeks of the year this year! That means that they'll
be re-running seasons 2 & 3 with Mark's segments. The 5th season will begin airing this Summer. The RVTV website, www.myrvtv.com, will continue to feature a more detailed article written by Polk on each of his RV savvy segments. Get the RVTV show schedule .....

'BIGITIS' — A COMMON RVer AILMENT
RV show season is here, and buying an RV is typically
a difficult decision: You ask yourself: "How long should
my new RV be, how posh, how many slides do I need,
should it be new or pre-owned?" The questions go
on and on. Even after you have found your dream
machine you'll likely spot one a little nicer, bigger or
fancier on your dealer's lot or at the next RV show.
Although we're finally driving what we feel is our
perfect home — a diesel pusher that we emphatically
say will be our last, it's not always easy to stay with
those convictions. Most RVers suffer from "Bigitis."
However, it's not necessary to "have-it-all" on your first
RV, or on each follow-up unit either. The fun and
experiences of our early days in our older, smaller RV,
were some of our most enjoyable. So find a unit that suits
your budget and your needs as they are now. Buy for the
lowest price without all the extras, or look for one that fits
your budget and ask the dealer to add extras and
modifications from your wish list before the final price
is settled. Either way works, but only you can decide
the route you wish to follow.
About RV LIVING IN THE 21ST CENTURY

and give you peace of mind! There is so much information we couldn't possibly
list it all. RV Education 101 highly recommends this book: RV

RV Q & A by Mark Polk
*NOTE: At Mark's discretion, material might be edited to suit a wide audience. Due to the large volume of material and correspondence we receive, individual replies might not be possible, nor can we acknowledge receipt of submitted material. Selected questions will be answered in future issues of our RV Education 101 newsletter and on our site. Thank-you for your understanding.
Q.1. Mark, We are looking at the Winnebago Sightseer 35J. The model we are looking at has two roof air conditioners, but only has 30 amp service with an Onan 5.5 KW generator. Will these two air conditioners be able to run at the same time with only 30 amps? Thanks!
Q.2. I was reading your article on battery maintenance and noticed a short section on "battery equalization". It mentions that you overcharge the voltage to clean the plates of build up. What sort of voltage are you talking about here? 13V; 18V; 24V? Thank you.
Q.3. My question is does the refrigerator need to be level when it is being stored and is not being operated? The manufacturer of my camper recommends parking it at an angle when stored so that moisture runs off the top. Just wondering whether this would damage the refrigerator. Thank you.

Do you travel with pets? If so this book is a MUST have. RV Education 101 Endorses this directory of 24-Hour and After-Hour veterinary facilities in the United States. It was written by a good friend of ours. Mark and Dawn Polk HIGHLY recommend this Guide.
We had to use it on our recent ski trip in the mountains. Buck our Terrier had a really bad cough and was not able to rest at all. We found a Pet clinic in the directory and had him there within the hour. Buck was diagnosed with Trachial Bronchitis and given antibiotics and cough medicine. The trip was saved and Buck was very grateful! Learn More

Commercial Usage of RVs
If you intend to use your RV for other business uses, such as a mobile hotel, an onsite business location, a mobile service business, or other sales-related uses, the RV must be under a commercial policy. Most commercial vehicle policies do not have specialized RV coverage’s. A few companies, such as National Interstate, do offer a commercial policy for RV’s used in business.

About us:
Our goal with this monthly newsletter is to provide you with helpful information to make all of your RV experiences more enjoyable. I left my position as an RV Sales and F&I manager in 2000 to start my own company, RV Education 101. We produce educational videos, DVDs and e-books on how to use and maintain your RV. The reason I left my job was due to my concern about the lack of educational and safety awareness material available to the RV consumer, in other words, you. We are a small company. My wife Dawn left her position in RV sales to help start the company and is our Sales and Marketing Director. We currently have a 35-foot Class A motor home. We have two boys, Tyler 11 and Josh 17, both avid RVers and two dogs, Gracie and Buck. Gracie is the good one.
