Editorial by Mark

Hi Everybody,

Happy New Year! I hope everybody had a great holiday season and that you had an opportunity to make a new years resolution, and hopefully you can stick to it. We have some exciting plans for 2007 and some exciting news to start off the new year. Our products will be available in Wal-Mart stores beginning in February 2007. The initial launch will include three DVD titles to be in several hundred stores and my "The RV Book" will be available in over 3,000 stores nationwide. You can find them in the RV section of the automotive department.

More good news! We have been working on making our DVDs available by instant download for quite some time now, and have finally been successful with this latest technology. Now you will be able to purchase the DVD title you want to view and it will be available instantly, just like an e-book. We're still hammering out some of the last minute details, but everything will be up and running very soon.

My goal for 2007, as far as video production goes, is to update some of our older titles and to produce two new titles based on numerous customer and retail outlet requests; one on "How to Buy an RV" and the other on "RV Preventive Maintenance". We are also planning to produce a video seminar series on specialized topics that RVers are interested in and concerned about. As you know, educating RVers is very important to us. We will continue to partner with KOA and this year, we have also partnered with National Interstate Insurance Company & Explorer RV Insurance Agency to create some very exciting educational opportunities for RVers including some video seminars that will help to explain various topics about RV insurance and the different types of coverage.

We completed our Miracle Truss building project the middle of December. I am extremely pleased with the final product. Be sure and take a look at this months video tip to find out exactly how a Miracle Truss steel building is constructed from start to finish. I told Dawn if she can't find me, I'll be in the new building.

Last, but not least for now is, I'll be at the Greensboro, NC RV show to conduct some seminars from 12 thru 14 January. If you're in the area stop by and say hi.

Enjoy the newsletter & have a great 2007 camping season,

Mark

RV Shows

A good place to start your search for a reputable RV dealer is at some local RV shows. RV shows are usually scheduled during the slow period of the year, the winter and early spring months, to help jump start the selling season. RV dealers from miles away will attend these shows. If at all possible you want to find a dealer that is within a reasonable distance from where you live. As bad as it sounds, if you buy from an out of state dealer or one far from home, the local RV dealer may not give you the best service after the sale.

When you attend an RV show don’t be afraid to ask questions about the RV dealership and the products they offer. There are some great deals offered at some RV shows and with all of the excitement, and a good salesperson, it’s easy to make a hasty purchase. Remember, you’re at the show to check out the dealers and you need to visit the RV dealer’s physical location before you buy. If they can offer a great deal at the show, chances are they can offer a great deal after the show, unless the offer included a manufacturer discount or rebate for show dates only. Let them know you might be interested in a particular unit or deal, but you want to visit the dealership before you buy.

There is a lot of ground to cover at an RV show and a wealth of information available. Not only will you find a good selection of RV dealers to check out, but there will be every make and model of RV imaginable too. RV shows are a great place to do some comparison shopping. Keep in mind that RV’s are available in entry, mid-line, and high-end models. When comparing prices, make sure it is apples to apples. One RV may look like another one, but you need to compare the options, construction, equipment and features they both have to offer. See who offers the best deal but remember if the dealer goes out of business next month, or isn’t equipped to work on the RV, your best deal may turn out to be a bad deal.

RV shows aren’t just for RV dealers to showcase their products. RV shows are a great source for information, from knowledgeable representatives, on every aspect of the RV industry. You will find information on campgrounds and RV resorts, aftermarket RV products, RV accessories and free RV seminars. Some of these seminars might be helpful to you in making some of your buying decisions. Check with the show office on seminar topics and times. RV shows are also a good place to talk to RV manufacturer representatives and other industry experts. Many of the RV manufacturers send knowledgeable representatives to assist RV dealers with their products. Don’t be afraid to talk with other RVers at the show. Many of these people have years of RV experience and knowledge of different products. So what are you waiting for? Find out when the next RV show will be in your area and make it a point to attend it. Oh, and don’t forget to wear some comfortable walking shoes!

Happy Camping,
Mark

RV shows
RV shows offer RVers and prospective RVers an opportunity to look at a variety of camping vehicles and gear in indoor comfort. It is a good time to shop and compare the many types of rigs available, depending on your wants, needs and pocketbook. Some of the shows are so large visitors could spend a couple of days looking at all the units.

NEW! RV Campground Basics DVD
When you purchase an RV, where to go and what to do when you get there can be confusing until you have a few RV trips under your belt. There is a lot to learn about public & private campgrounds and RV Parks, and the more you know, the better your camping experiences will be. How do you find RV campgrounds, parks and resorts? Should you make reservations before leaving on a trip? How do you register when you arrive at the campground? What kind of site should you request? Do you need a partial hook up or a full hook up? How do you set the RV up at the campground? What does campground etiquette mean? How do you determine the right camping club or camping network for you? That is the purpose of this DVD, to answer all of these questions and much more

Steering Controls
There are several aftermarket steering controls on the market today. You might be asking yourself "why do I need a steering control?" "Is my motorhome and chassis designed inadequately?" Well, no they're not. Most drive adequately in good conditions and with all steering components adjusted properly per the factory settings. The trouble is there are a lot of "not so good" conditions on the road everyday. We'll visit those situations later on. The purpose of an aftermarket steering control is to give added safety and convenience to the driver, enhancing the driving experience and giving the driver peace of mind. After all, who wants to worry about anything when you're out on the open road?....

by Peggi McDonald, Author of RV Living in the 21st Century
RV SERVICE: GETTING THE BEST EXPERIENCE It's frustrating waiting in an RV service center for repairs. In 19 years of full-timing we've learned how to receive maximum benefits during routine service including getting the fastest service.

  • Make an appointment.
  • List all service required including the VIN#, mileage, address and phone number.
  • Contact or visit the facility before the appointment to confirm that parts are available and the techs can correct the problem. You can also fax the info or send a letter.
  • Ask for an estimate before the work begins.
  • It is unwise to add extras to work-orders after you arrive -- service centers are busy and if repairs to your unit are extended the tech won't be available for the next customer.
  • Rather than leave your unit for a few days with a promise to return, try to remain visible in the waiting room. Work is completed faster for on-site customers, plus other service calls will not be put ahead of yours.
  • Some RVers ask for parts that were removed, but we prefer to ask the tech to explain what happened and what parts and service were required to get us on our way.

    About us:

Our goal with this monthly newsletter is to provide you with helpful information to make all of your RV experiences more enjoyable. I left my position as an RV Sales and F&I manager in 2000 to start my own company, RV Education 101. We produce educational videos, DVDs and e-books on how to use and maintain your RV. The reason I left my job was due to my concern about the lack of educational and safety awareness material available to the RV consumer, in other words, you. We are a small company. My wife Dawn left her position in RV sales to help start the company and is our Sales and Marketing Director. We currently have a 35-foot Class A motor home. We have two boys, Tyler 10 and Josh 16, both avid RVers and two dogs, Gracie and Buck. Gracie is the good one.
